With ~83M being added to the world’s population yearly, cities, supply chains, and food systems are feeling the heat. These challenges mean changing how our foods are being produced and consumed. Resource limitations, shifting consumer behaviours, and technological advances are together culminating in the adoption of new practices, allowing emerging technologies to gain footing amidst long-established traditions. Together with BCG, Hello Tomorrow has identified three of the latest trends shaping the future of food & agriculture. The insights have been generated through a combination of (a) identifying and analysing the most promising start-ups that come through the annual Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge, and (b) working with some of the most significant demand drivers in the space. In this session, we analyse these trends and the evolving supply- and demand-side factors driving them. We also discuss why these trends matter, the applications and market opportunities within each trend, as well as the key roadblocks that have to be overcome for these trends to reach maturity and broad acceptance.
